ABBOTSFORD NURSERY

Since 1962

In June of 1962 Mr. Jean-Claude Paquette founded Abbotsford Nursery when he purchased the former H.C. Downham Nursery, by whom he had been employed as a travelling salesman. At the time only 4 hectares (just under 10 acres) of land was available for nursery production. Slowly, the businessman reinvested business profits to expand production, and hectares of wooded land were cleared to create new fields. Today, the Nursery has more than 65 hectares (160 acres) under cultivation, with some 2000 varieties of plants in production using field, container or greenhouse growing methods.

Pierre, founder’s son, has been the president until October 2020 and, in 2021, his son Pierre-Marc took the lead at Abbotsford Nursery. So it is three generations of Paquette, supported by more than a hundred devoted and experimented employees, that insured the excellence of service and quality of all those plants over six decades.

Abbotsford Nursery was also instrumental in the founding of Botanix the largest chain of garden centers in Québec.

LAWN SERVICES

Lawn and green space treatment, under the Nutrite banner, counts on a team of qualified and experienced technicians to enrich our region’s green spaces. Additionally, Nutrite offers several complimentary services such as mechanical core aeration, sprayed application of dormant oil and different foliage spray treatments for trees and shrubs.

PRODUCTION NURSERY

The Nursery has more than 65 hectares (160 acres) under cultivation, with some 2000 varieties of plants in production including conifers, trees, shrubs, fruit trees, berry plants, vines, roses and perennials. Plants are field and container grown, as well as in climate controlled greenhouses.

We are the licenced producers for the well known brands Endless Summer, Brazelberries, Proven Winners and First Editions. Along with the celebrated Abbotsford Rose, we introduced the Les Impatients Rose; the rose with a cause. Each Les Impatients rose bush sold will generate a contribution of 4$ to the organisation of the same name, which provides assistance to those individuals living with mental illness.

Abbotsford Nursery actively supports horticultural schools by welcoming numerous student trainees each season. Each autumn, we hold our open house day. Members of the general public are invited to embark on a guided tour of our operations. These visits generate a lot of interest from people regardless of their age or gardening experience and contribute to increased knowledge about the horticultural sector as well as highlighting the importance of plants and plant materials in our environment.

We have a Commercial Sales Department which oversees the distribution of our superior quality plants and trees to garden centers and municipalities throughout Québec and beyond.

GARDEN CENTER

The Garden Center is open 7 days a week from March through December. In addition to offering landscape planning services, we carry a wide range of products. One can find an extensive variety of annuals and perennials grown in the nursery which are well acclimated to our area, lawn, vegetable and flower seeds, mulch and other bagged decorative soil covering materials. Additionally, there is a great selection of home and garden decor items including fountains, statuary, and bird baths. The garden center also stocks specialized potting soils and fertilizers as well as pesticides. You will find aquatic plants, water garden pumps and accessories, bird feeders, bird seed, spring, summer and fall bulbs, depending on the season, and house plants to suit every taste. We offer flowering annuals in a variety of sizes including a large choice of hanging baskets, flowering annuals and vegetables in flats, a selection of herbs, garden accessories and hardware. In late fall we welcome our clients with our Christmas boutique.
